Medical Assistant Training Program

Program Overview

The Medical Assistant Hybrid program is a 16 week program consisting of a five-hundred-and-sixty hour course and one-hundred-and-sixty hours of extern to complete. A student will become a Medical Assistant and earn a certificate in the allied health field. Prepare to enter the workforce with all the advanced training in Medstar Academy’s program with highly trained instructors. All students will have access to NHA (National HealthCareer Association), which will provide additional learning to guide, and help be ready for the state exam for certification. NHA’s certification programs are accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. Medical assistant students are trained to work with physicians, in hospitals, specialty practices and with various healthcare faculty in patient care for front and back-office duties.

Medical Assisting classes at Medstar Academy includes:
  • MA Track 1: Intro to Medical Assistant, Medicine, and Medical Terminology, Clinical Patient Care, Laboratory, and Phlebotomy Basics.

  • MA Track 2: Anatomy & Physiology with EKG, Asepsis Sterile Tray with Emergency Care and Bandage Wound Care. Administration with Law and Ethics, Coding, EHR and Health Insurance.

  • MA Track 3: Injections, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Infection Control, Professionalism with Mock Training and CPR AHA - American Heart Association.

  • MA Track 4: After Completion of Medical Assistant class hours of online and on campus students will transition to extern for 160 hours or up to five weeks and prepare for NHA exam to complete MA certification through the National Healthcareer Association.

Program Tuition & Fees

Tuition includes lab materials, e-books, stethoscope/blood pressure set, one uniform, lab supplies, AHA CPR BLS certification, National Health career Association (NHA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) preparation and study guide.
  • Registration Fee - $200

Payment Plans for Cash / Credit Paying Students

Pay registration fee of $200 upfront at the time of enrollment and then make either three biweekly payments or four biweekly payments. You may also put the entire program cost on a credit card. This will allow you to pay for your classes over an extended period of time.

All payments must be completed prior to the student being scheduled for their externship.

Admission Requirements

A potential Medical Assistant student must submit the following requirements:
  • Pass Admission Test with minimum of 70%
  • Proof of legal presence in the U.S (e.g., US passport, Birth Certificate, or Green Card).
  • Copy of Arizona Driver’s License or ID and Social Security Card
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must by 18 years of age or older
  • Medical Clearance Form from a Doctor
  • Pass a 10 Panel Drug Test
  • Immune Status Panel - MMR Titers (Measles, Mumps Rubella), Varicella Zoster Virus IgG Antibodies (provide immunization records or titers)
    Must be provided before the first day of class.
  • The Student must provide medical documentation.
  • TB Test or Chest X-Ray (within the last 6 months)
    Must be provided before the first day of class.

Externship Requirements

For a student to qualify for Externship placement, they must submit the following prior to class end date:
  • DPS Fingerprint Card
  • CPR/BLS with American Heart (AHA)
  • Exit Interview
  • Satisfy Any Other Requirements of the Training Facility
  • No Outstanding Payments
  • Externship Site Disclosure
  • Release of Liability
Medical Marijuana & Drug Use Policy
Drug use is prohibited for any student participating in Medstar Academy’s programs, including classroom, laboratory, externship, and clinical environments. All students are required to submit negative urine drug screens. This policy also applies to students with a prescription for medical marijuana and/or a medical marijuana card.

Medstar Academy adheres to Arizona Revised Statutes § 15-108 which prohibits the possession and use of marijuana on a school campus by any person, with or without a prescription or card.
