Medstar Academy is located in Peoria, Arizona and serves the Phoenix metropolitan area including Peoria, Glendale, Surprise, Sun City, El Mirage, Youngtown, Waddell, Litchfield Park, Goodyear and Phoenix. Small class sizes and high pass rates separate us from other training schools. We hire instructors that are experts in the fields they teach. This gives students the opportunity to learn from those with years of real-world experience.

Detailed Information About Our Programs

Certified Nursing Assistant

Cost of CNA Training Program

  • Registration — $200
  • Tuition — $1,080

Includes:

  • Scrub Set
  • BP Cuff/Stethoscope
  • Gait Belt

Additional items that may be purchased at time of registration:

Textbook — $80
CPR Pro/First Aid — $50
Arizona DPS Fingerprinting Services — $15

After successful completion of the training school program, students are responsible for scheduling the State Board Exam at a cost of $118.

Payment Options:

 Payment Plan — Pay registration fee of $200 upfront at time of enrollment and then make either three biweekly payments of approximately $360 or four biweekly payments of $270. You may also put the entire program cost on a credit card. This will allow you to pay for your classes over an extended period of time.

All payments must be complete prior to the student being scheduled for clinicals.

Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA)

For students wishing to become Licensed Nursing Assistants or LNAs, no additional training is required.  The student must pay an additional $50 for completing an application for LNA and an additional $50 for a background check.  The student makes the application on the State Board website and pays directly.

CNA Training Program Requirements

Certified Nursing Assistant students must meet the following requirements to enter the program:

  • Must be at least seventeen years of age
  • Pass an admissions test
  • Provide proof of Citizenship — Arizona State ID, Arizona Drivers License or US Passport
  • Social Security card
  • Pass a five panel drug test
  • TB test within six months
  • Medical clearance from doctor
  • No felony convictions within the last five years

Students must meet the following requirements prior to entering the off-site clinicals:

  • Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card or application
  • BLS/CPR Pro certification
  • No outstanding payments

Medstar Academy CNA Training Program Hours

  • Classroom education and skills lab — 80 Hours
  • Clinical requirements — 40 Hours
  • Five days of clinicals are from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM for both day and evening classes

Additional Costs

Additional costs not included in program cost include retake exam fees,  class transfer fee, scrub top/gait belt/name badge/certificate of completion/stethoscope/blood pressure cuff replacement, make up hours.

Pharmacy Technician Training Program

The Pharmacy Technician Training program prepares student to take the Arizona Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam and receive their Pharmacy Technician License. Medstar Academy offers a ten-week, hands-on training program that focuses on preparing students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) national exam.

Pharmacy Technician students takes classes four days per week, Monday through Thursday for seven weeks. This is followed by three weeks of clinicals at a Walgreens branch close to where the student lives.

Cost of Pharmacy Tech Program

  • Registration Fee — $200
  • Tuition — $2,225

Additional items not included:

  • Arizona DPS Fingerprinting for License — $15

Items the student is responsible for obtaining on their own:

  • Arizona DPS Fingerprint Processing Fee for License — $65
  • PTCB National Exam — $129

Pharmacy Tech Training Program Requirements

Requirements to enter the Pharmacy Technician training program:

  • High school diploma , GED or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Provide proof of Citizenship — Arizona State ID, Arizona Drivers License or US Passport
  • Social Security Card
  • Pass an Admissions Test — English and Math competency level
  • No felony convictions or drug or pharmacy related convictions including misdemeanor that would prevent ability to get Arizona Pharmacy Tech Trainee License
  • Pass a five panel drug test

Pharmacy Technician training program students must meet the following requirements prior to entering the off-site clinicals:

  • DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Obtain Arizona Pharmacy Technician Trainee License
  • Pass Background Check
  • No outstanding payments

Pharmacy Technician Training Program Hours

The Pharmacy Technician training program aims to perform two distinct student-oriented goals. First, prepare students for employment as pharmacy technicians, and second, qualify students to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. This test is an NCAA accredited national certification exam for pharmacy technicians. Medstar Academy offers 240 hours of training, qualifying Pharmacy Technician students to take the PTCB exam.

  • Classroom Education — 120 Hours
  • Clinical Requirements — 120 Hours
  • Clinical training and orientation to an accredited and licensed healthcare facility.

Phlebotomy Technician Program

Phlebotomy Technician Training Program Outcome

The Phlebotomy Technician Training program prepares students to take the NCCT Phlebotomy Technician exam and receive a national certification in Phlebotomy.

Phlebotomy Technician Training Program Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Provide proof of Citizenship — Arizona State ID, Arizona Drivers License or US Passport
  • Social Security card

Students generally go to clinicals within 30-60 days after classroom training ends provided they’ve met all requirements of the school and the clinical site. There are some exceptional situations when it may take even longer, depending upon the availability at the clinical site. Students are expected to cooperate with the school and clinical site and be flexible when it comes to scheduling the three weeks of clinicals in order to prevent excessive delays. Students must meet the following criteria prior to clinicals as well as any requirements of the clinical facility:

  • TB test or chest x-ray within six months
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or Titer within the last twelve months
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccination or Titer within the last twelve months
  • Pass a five panel drug test
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Cards
  • Any other admission or onboarding requirements of the clinical facility

Phlebotomy Technician Training Program Hours

The Phlebotomy Technician training program works to fulfill two student-centered aims. First, to prepare students for employment as a Phlebotomy Technician, and second, to qualify the students to take the National Center for Competency Testing exam. The exam is accredited by the NCAA and is a national certification exam for phlebotomy technicians. Medstar Academy offers 150 learning hours to practice the necessary skills:

  • Classroom Education — 70 Hours
  • Clinical Requirements — 80 Hours

Cost of Phlebotomy Technician Program

  • Tuition, books, and uniform — $2,150
  • Registration Fee — $200

CPR Pro and First Aid Training Class

Medstar Academy offers CPR Pro and Basic First Aid courses to help you achieve employment requirements, fulfill course requirements, or for your own personal knowledge. The courses we offer include cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer and basic first aid training.

Cost — $50

Medstar Academy utilizes the American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) curriculum for our CPR Pro and First Aid courses. The issued cards are valid for two years.

No financial aid or grants are available directly from the school. However, the school accepts students that receive grants or tuition assistance from:
